MODULE 1

At the end of this module the driver should be able to identify hazards on the roadway, and understand the safe use of a vehicle.

• 3 hour audio/visual training on Defensive Driving techniques

• Look well in advance

• Awareness levels (IPDE)

• Constant eye movement
• Emergency lane change and exits
• Communication and signals
• Use of controls
• Momentum driving/Economical driving (heavy vehicles)

• Green Band driving/Gearbox management (heavy vehicles)

MODULE 2

At the end of this module the driver should be able to know how to use the vehicle’s controls smooth and economical and apply a high standard of awareness on the road.

• In-Car training – one on one per driver

MODULE 3

At the end of this module the driver should be able to drive according to the defensive driving system safe and economical and know how to control the vehicle in emergency situations.

• Practical driving evaluation and certification

Course 1 – Introduction to off-road driving skills

The content of this course includes an instruction lecture and practical driving to demonstrate the capability of the vehicle. It will teach you the theory of negotiating the obstacle with plenty of opportunity to try it yourself.

• Vehicle inspection and preparation
• 4 X 4 vehicle lay-out
• 4 X 4 drive train (high- and low range, diff locks, etc)
• Negotiating obstacles
• Obstacle driving (ldv’s, tractors, trucks)
• Driving inclines and declines
• Mountain driving
• Safety aspects
• Evaluation and certification

Course 2 – Intermediate off-road and recovery

The content of this course provides an advanced level of training in the skills needed to make progress safely in real situations.

• Advanced obstacle crossing
• Vehicle recovery
• Use of the winch and remote cable
• Use of hi-lift jack
• Use of kinetic snatch strap
• Pre-attachment of tow rope

Course 3 – Advanced 4 x 4 and team exercises

The content of this course includes instruction, practical driving and team work.

• Advanced obstacle crossing with trailer
• Advanced winch anchor points
• Vehicle recovery
• Syndicate team exercises and competitions
• Safety of passengers and equipment
• Basic first aid

Certificates will be issued to competent Drivers and progress reports to Managers.
